微笑みの国から

柳井美加奈先生が、毎年開いていらっしゃる、古典のみのrecitalの「二人会・2015」のプログラムの一曲「八重衣」を、Youtubeにアップしました。

あいにく息子の仕事の新しい企画と時期が重なり、upするまでに時間がかかってしまい、申し訳ありません。
でも、おかげさまでしばらく疎遠だった息子と、互いのパソコンの画面を通じて、深夜にあれこれcontentsを整える作業は、結構楽しい時間でした。

そして、この「八重衣」での歌詞、百人一首からの和歌と曲目解説の英訳を引き受けてくださった、同時通訳の友人にも感謝！です。せっかくの先生の素晴らしい演のみならず、単なる日本文化のブームのひとつではなく、きちんと理解をしてほしいと思い、全てに英訳をつけました。

ちなみに「八重衣」で歌われる、百人一首の中からの五首を載せます。さて、誰のどの和歌でしょう？

・ For you I’m picking medicinal herbs. I see snowflakes on my kimono sleeves.

・Spring is quickly gone. It seems summer has come. In the summer
they say they dry the bright white laundry in the sun in that hill in Nara.

・In the Yoshino mountains in Nara, autumn winds are blowing. Night is getting deep and in the former capital it is getting cold and lonely.
I hear far away the pounding of kimono to give glitter and softness.

・A hut by the rice fields has only rough thatch roofing, so my kimono sleeves are getting wet by dewdrops.

・Crickets are chirping, and frost is coming on a cold night. Am I going to sleep alone in loneliness, laying by myself one long sleeve of mine
over the straw mat ?
